What is Silica Gel for Organic Agriculture?
Okygel 99 S is a very fine powder, with particles guaranteed between 1 and 2 microns, with a specific surface area of about 280 m2/g. It is a natural product, 100% ecological, harmless and non-phytotoxic to human and animal health.
What is Silica Gel used for?
Okygel 99 S is an excellent dehydrating agent, therefore it is used for local humidity control on vegetation. Despite its action being called dehydrating, the chemical-physical process by which water vapor is removed from the environment consists of an adsorption operation: water vapor molecules bind not only to the external surface, but also internally; in fact, Okygel 99 S has considerable porosity and this results in a greater total area available for material exchange: 1 kg of Silica Gel can absorb 4 - 5 liters of water.
Okygel 99 S has a pH of around 11.5, therefore it has a natural inhibitory action against fungi and bacteria.
Why use Silica Gel?
When applied to vegetation, Okygel 99 S improves the plant's constitutional defenses; the absorbed Silicon increases the thickness of leaves and stems, resulting in indirect and natural reduction of damage from pests.
Silicon also activates chemically induced defenses in the plant, stimulating the production of phenolic compounds.
When to use Silica Gel?
Okygel 99 S can be used on:
- Fruit plants, such as Apple, Stone Fruit, Olive;
- In greenhouses or in open fields on Strawberry and Tomato;
Okygel 99 S can be used at any time during the production cycle, wetting the vegetation uniformly. Furthermore, the addition of specific wetting agents such as Base Gold ensures uniform distribution and greater resistance to washout.
Silica Gel: a natural soil corrector
In Agriculture and Gardening, Okygel 99 S is very useful for retaining and slowly releasing water, preventing the occurrence of root rot. In Professional Agriculture, the lack of Silicon in the soil is recognized as a limiting factor for agricultural production.
Dosage
- Where it is used: on fruit trees (grape, peach), on strawberries, on vegetables (tomato), in the garden (rose, geranium) and can be used at any stage of the production cycle.
- How to use: spray the plant from a distance of 40-50 cm, wetting the entire surface evenly, including the underside of the leaves.
- When to use: spring-summer, from flowering until before fruit harvesting.
